The start of fall signals the start of the NFL season. What many people don’t know is how well footballwine. No, a Napa Merlot doesn’t pair any better with Monday Night Football vs. a Walla Walla Merlot but for the last 10 years, a plethora of former NFL players and coaches have started their own wineries.  You may be asking what does an ex-jock know about winemaking? Probably not enough to make stellar wines, that is why all of these guys have drafted an experienced winemaker (see what I did there) to collaborate with. Smart move! The biggest up and comer is fronted by ex QB’s Damon Huard and Dan Marino called Passing Time. Located in Woodinville, Washington (just a few blocks away from Cellars Wine Club) these guys hired Chris Peterson formerly of DeLille Cellars to make their wine.  Garnering scores in the mid to upper 90’s proves that Huard and Marino did their proper… scouting before hiring Peterson.  Other NFL players with wineries include: Drew Bledsoe, Charles Woodson, Joe Montana, and Mike Ditka along with legendary NFL coach Dick Vermeil and should also be sought out. Go Hawks!
