The state of Washington is home to some of America’s finest vineyards. Some even say that the wineries here could give those in California’s Napa Valley a run for their money. In particular, Yakima Valley vineyards are getting much attention lately.
Yakima Valley is located in the Eastern part of the state, about three hours east of Seattle. Yakima city is where a long line of vineyards start. The areas of Prosser and Zillah dominate when it comes to the quantity of vineyards and wineries.
Here are some of the best vineyards in the state of Washington:
- Agate Field Vineyard. This vineyard is so rustic in style because it looks like a ranch. The vineyard has been owned by Ginger’s family, and the soil that the grapes grow on is volcanic. It is owned by Bob and Ginger Rashford. The husband and wife team got their training from another Washington vineyard called Sheridan. All of their grapes are supplied and sourced from Yakima Valley. Agate Field Vineyard accepts small groups of visitors for wine tasting tours. They also have picnic grounds within the vineyard.
- Dineen Vineyards is a small family-owned winery. It is owned by Pat and Lanie Dineen. The idea of putting up a vineyard came from Pat himself after he retired from his job of 40 years. They set up the vineyard in 2001 with small capital and a 12-acre property which produces syrah, cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc. The next year, they set-up their second vineyard, a much bigger 80-acre property where they grew other varieties like Riesling, semillion, viognier, rousanne, malbec, merlot and petit verdot.
- Naches Heights Vineyard produces high-quality grapes of the syrah, cabernet franc, riesling, pinot gris, gewürztraminer, and mourvedre variety. One of the advantages of this vineyard is that it has an elevation of 1,800 feet. With the higher altitude and cooler temperatures all year round, the grapes they produce have higher acidity content which contributes to the quality of the wines they produce.
Whether you like a small and quaint vineyard that offers wine reviews and tasting or vast and diverse vineyards, Washington has many more vineyards to boast of.
